Amazon.com, Inc. has recently announced the launch of the Amazon Textbook Rental program. This is Amazon’s first step into the physical textbook rental market, having already experienced success with their Kindle ebook rentals, and it boasts that it can save students up to 70% on their textbooks.
In order to rent a textbook from Amazon, students simply search Amazon.com for the desired book and select “Rent Now,” instead of the normal buying option. All textbook rentals are fulfilled by Amazon and are eligible for free shipping, as long as the total order is over $25.
The due dates for returning the textbooks are stored in the user’s Amazon account and Amazon will send email reminders when the deadline approaches. At the end of the rental period, returning the textbooks are free and simple with a prepaid, printable label. In addition, students are able to return the textbook within the first 30 days of the rental period for a full refund. It allows students to get their money back in case they drop a class during the drop/add period of class registration.
