After the conclusion of their first Open Textbook Challenge, the Saylor Foundation has announced that it will promote a second wave of the contest. Following in the footsteps of the original challenge, the Open Textbook Challenge will offer $20,000 to every textbook author who agrees to openly license a college-level textbook under a CC BY 3.0 license. Each textbook submitted must meet certain criteria set by the Saylor Foundation to be considered eligible for the contest. Once a textbook is submitted, it will go through a peer review process and any textbook that passes will entitle the author to a $20,000 prize. The textbook will also be made freely available on the Saylor Foundation’s website.
Wave II submissions are currently being accepted until the deadline of January 31, 2012.
